Wyoming Fishing Vacations
Looking for great Wyoming fishing vacations? I am sure you are aware of the fabled fishing spots of Yellowstone National Park but some of the best angling in the region can be found outside the park boundaries.
One of the most satisfying western rivers for a Wyoming fishing vacation is the Snake River. Well known for cutthroat trout. With picture perfect scenery and the resort town of Jackson within a short distance, this Wyoming river gets a lot of visitors, but it's still an anglers paradise.
As the Snake River emerges from Jackson Lake Dam it becomes a broad strong river and there is decent fishing from its banks in certain spots right below the dam and even better fishing if you float the river. Different stretches of the Snake River from Jackson Lake into Idaho are good at different times of the year so seek out one of the Local guides. Fly fisherman can ask advice at local stores on recent insect hatches and good stretches of river or they can also hire a guide to keep them company.
Another great Wyoming fishing vacation destination is near the town of Jackson, the Grand Teton National Park has a worldwide reputation for its excellent trout fishing. The lakes, Jackson, Jenny and Phelps and streams in the Grand Teton are home to lively cutthroat trout, whitefish and Mackinaw trout. Fishing deep with trolling gear from a boat during the summer months can get you a 20 inch catch.
South of Casper Wyoming in fairly open plains country is a Wyoming fishing vacation destination called "The Miracle Mile". The "Miracle Mile" is well known for its blue ribbon fishing. This stretch of North Platte River produces lunker brown, Rainbow trout and some Walleye. Fisherman float the stretch between two reservoirs, Seminoe and Pathfinder. The stretch is actually several miles long. The Seminoe Reservoir offers some great fishing particularly in June and July, for both trout and Walleye. Fisherman also like the upstream area of the North Platte around the town of Saratoga.
Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and the Flaming Gorge Reservoir located in South Wyoming near the Utah boarder make a Wyoming fishing vacation destination known as an aquatic paradise and most famous for fishing. Its cool clear depths are ideal for growing enormous trout. These famous fishing waters have produced fish of state and world record size. Rainbow trout over 25 pounds, German brown trout over 30 pounds and Mackinaw over 50 pounds. Flaming Gorge also supports cutthroat trout, kokanee salmon, small mouth bass and channel catfish.
Fishing in Wyoming requires the appropriate state fishing license and it is recommend if you seek the help of a guide to get the most out of your Wyoming fishing vacation. If you are unsure of the guide ask for references.
