South Carolina Vacations

South Carolina Vacations - Millions flock to South Carolina every year to vacation in the Palmetto State. South Carolina is most well known for the family favorite, Myrtle Beach. Many attractions make Myrtle Beach a great vacation destination, but so much more can also be found during a South Carolina vacation.

Myrtle Beach

South Carolina has 187 miles of coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. In the Northern part of the state is a 60 mile stretch of white sand beaches, nicknamed the Grand Strand. Myrtle Beach is one of the most popular vacation spots on the Grand Strand. Many families come here to fish, swim, snorkel, sail, and relax in the sun. There are also amusement parks and over 100 golf courses.

If you want water fun without the salt, visit South Carolina’s largest water park, Myrtle Wave. Offering 20 acres of water fun for the whole family, including rides such as Riptide Rockets, the Ocean in Motion Wave Pool and Lazee River. Don’t miss the 700 gallon volcano soaking guests every 6 minutes and for the little ones in the family visit the bubble bay with a depth of 6-18”. A splashing good time can last all day!

Perhaps you have seen Ripley’s Believe it or Not on television, here in South Carolina; Ripley offers some unbelievable fun at the Ripley’s aquarium. Sharks, fish, rays, and sea creatures of every kind lurk in the millions of gallons of water housed in the aquarium. Many group programs are offered; especially notable is the Sleep with Sharks program. Children can spend a night in the Dangerous Reef Tunnel, instead of lying under the stars, they can lie under sharks! The program includes a snack and breakfast, a craft activity, educational program, and scavenger hunt. It is an experience no kid can soon forget.

Dry off with the wind in your hair at the Nascar Speedpark on your next South Caroline vacation. Beginners can start in the Qualifying and Young Champion Tracks. They also have the Gatorade Family 500, once you’ve had some practice. For young children, they offer an indoor playground and car-themed rides. Head over to the Speed Dome for arcade fun and a climbing wall. Fast and furious family fun will be had at the Nascar Speedpark!

Family Kingdom, Myrtle beaches only seaside amusement park, is a great place to stop for carnival style rides and attractions on the seashore. In addition, they offer classic midway games and fair food. Thrilling family amusements can be found throughout a South Carolina vacation.

For a more educational, but still highly entertaining time for younger children, head to the Children’s Museum of South Carolina. Exhibits on every topic can be found. From nature to electricity, phenomena are explored in fun, informative ways. Role play is encouraged in the Children’s Museum Emergency Room, Kidz ATM, and Dental Office. Dig for fossils in the sand or set sail on the USS Kidz Afloat. The smaller children will have a ball playing doctor, dentist, fossil-hunter, or exploring any of the other exhibits designed with them in mind.

Welford

Hollywild Animal Park offers some exotic creatures for everyone’s delight. Take advantage of an outback Safari ride through 70+acres of free roaming animal area. Some of the animals you will see on your Safari ride are Bison, deer, zebras, and Emus.

Columbia

Riverbanks Zoo, this wildlife park in Columbia is one of the most popular zoos in the country. Riverbanks Zoo was one of the first zoos to remove its cages. More than 2,000 animals live here in natural habitats. The zoo has many settings ranging from African savanna to polar ice pools.

Historic sites aplenty are found during your South Carolina vacations.

Charleston

Historic Charleston is South Carolinas oldest city and proud of its past. About one thousand city blocks date back to the time of the civil war. Many of them are in the area of the Battery and have been beautifully restored. Rainbow Row is one of the most popular parts of the historic district. Its 14 homes date back to the time when South Carolina was a British Colony. The houses are painted a variety of bright colors.

While in Charleston board the ferry and visit Fort Sumter National Monument. On April 12, 1861, the Confederate army fired shots at the Union held Fort. Those were the first shots of the civil war.

Patriots Point Museum, home of the famous WWII aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown is located in Charleston Harbor. While at the Patriots museum you can tour the USS Yorktown, USS Clamagore, USS Ingham the historic 327 foot Coast Guard Cutter, and stand beside actual WWII fighter and bomber aircraft.

McClellanville

Hampton Plantation is a serene state historic site and a fine example of a Georgian mansion. Hampton mansion was once a working rice plantation. Park Interpreters conduct regular tours of the mansion. Visitors can explore the mansion or enjoy the serene grounds and creek areas. South Carolina vacations offer an interesting mix of activities.
