North Dakota Travel - North Dakota is a state with a vast array of geographical features; it also has the distinction of being at the center of North America. Amazing buttes and mountains can be found in addition to soft rolling hills. Amidst all of the scenery exists unparalleled vacation opportunities. Nothing in this world is like a North Dakota travel vacation.

Obviously, the biggest draw in North Dakota is the breathtaking vistas and natural activities one can participate in while outdoors.

Beaver Lake State Park is one of the best stops for outdoor fun. Among the many activities are boating, water skiing, and canoeing. Camping, whether by tent or RV, is allowed and access to supplies is provided. Fishing, hiking, and scenic walks are also choices for visitors to the lake.

Fort Ransom (Outside Fargo)

Another stop for open air pleasure is the Bear’s Den Mountain Ski Area. When visiting in the winter, this option is excellent for skiing and snowboarding. A 290 ft. drop is available, as are chairlift, t-bar, and rope tow fun for the whole family.

Bismarck

A notable historic site is Gingras Trading Post. It is the 1840 home and trading post of fur trader Antoine Gingras. Both buildings are restored to their original state providing a great perspective on a fur traders life in 1840.

Little Missouri State Park has 47 miles of trails for horseback riding or hiking. The scenic vistas you will encounter will be like no others on earth. North Dakota travel vacations offer splendid tourism and scenic opportunities.

Williston

Fort Buford, a military post from 1866, is legendary as the place that Sitting Bull surrendered. Many of these historic sites perform reenactments and much history can be gleaned at these sites. History is just one of the benefits of a North Dakota travel vacation.

Almont

The Almont Heritage Park Museum offers many exhibits, including a rock jail and a country school house. Other offerings include a Pacific Railroad depot, blacksmith shop, and antique pianos.

Mandan

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is the location of Custer’s last home. Its reconstruction includes the central barracks, granary, commissary and a stable. Tours take visitors back to 1875 the year before the 7th Calvary rode to little bighorn. There is also a museum and an On-A-Slant Indian’s Village’s with five reconstructed earth lodges.

Minot

The Dakota Territory Air Museum also offers a glimpse at history--aviation history. Military and civilian aircraft are displayed dating from the late 1920s through the present day. Military uniforms, memorabilia, and paintings are also on display.

Roosevelt Park Zoo is home to more than 200 mammals, birds and reptiles from all over the world. Some notable items at the zoo are: the children’s zoo, educational center, otter exhibit, giraffe and penguins.

This is a fun day activity for the entire family. Many unique attractions are offered in a North Dakota travel vacation.

Jamestown

One special attraction is the three albino bison which are part of the National Buffalo Museum’s buffalo herd. Here, Native Americans consider the albino bison to be sacred. While seeing the buffalo, you can also visit the Frontier Village and museum.

Beach

If you are visiting Beach, North Dakota in the summer months enjoy a refreshing dip in the newly built Municipal Swimming Pool. The pool offers a 60 foot water slide, lap pool, an attached baby pool and umbrella waterfall. You will find it to be one of the best outdoor facilities in the region.

Dickenson

The North Dakota Dinosaur Museum features 14 full scale dinosaurs, minerals, mammals, fossils and sea life.

Wahpeton

Chahinkapa Zoo is committed to providing natural habitats for its animals. The zoo has over 200 animals and birds including, otters, bison, monkeys, camels, grizzly bears, snow leopards, and Bengal tigers to name a few.
