New Hampshire Vacation - Fun for the Whole Family

New Hampshire vacations - New Hampshire is a picturesque state full of mountains, rivers, and lakes. On a New Hampshire Vacation you can travel the Granite State from historical Portsmouth on the coast to the heights of the White Mountains.

The state motto, “live free or die,” comes from the state’s most influential soldier in the American Revolution, General John Stark, who once wrote for a battle anniversary toast, “live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils.” This sentiment may certainly give you an idea of the patriotic history of the state. That and more are offered on a New Hampshire vacation.

Mason

It is in the spring that sap is harvested to make delicious maple syrup. To see maple syrup making first hand visit Parker’s Maple Barn. Watch the syrup get made, learn the history of the trade, or have a delectable pancake breakfast in the Maple Barn restaurant. Visiting a sap or sugar house it is a wonderful way to take in New Hampshire’s culture. The sugar house is open March thru April and there is a Pow wow in September. This location also offers a store and gift shop.

Franconia

Frost Place is a house museum. Famed poet Robert Frost made his home here from1915 to 1920. You will find a glimpse of a place where a young poet could concentrate and write some of his famed works.

New Castle

Fort Constitution Historic Site was a U.S. fort garrisoned by an artillery unit in the late 1790s and early1800s. It also offers a lighthouse and is a popular picnic spot.

State parks also make New Hampshire vacations spectacular.

Laconia

Ahern State Park covers 128 acres and 3,500 feet of shoreline near Lake Winnisquam. Ahern Park offers scenic forest and lakeside view, the park is also popular for fishing, hiking, and boating.

Berlin

Jericho Mountain State Park is well known for off-road adventures. There are miles of ATV, bike, and snowmobile trails located in the park. Camping, fishing, and canoeing are also offered.

Hollis

Silver Lake State Park is a popular swimming location; it is an 80-acre park that offers paddle boats, picnic tables, and kayak rentals.

Manchester

Salem

Bretton Woods

Mount Washington Cog Railway provides you a ride to the top of the 6,288 foot Mount Washington. On the three mile route the train rolls along one of the steepest railway tracks in the world! The steam locomotive pushes just a single passenger car to the top of the mountain- using a ton of coal and a thousand gallons of water to do its work. Once you reach the peak, on a clear day, you can see four states, Canada, and the Atlantic Ocean

Jefferson

Six Gun City is an old west theme park. The park features thrill rides, great old west shows for the kids to participate in the action, horseback riding, laser tag, go-karts, and a carriage museum. Fort Splash Water park is also located here. The water park has water slides for all ages, bumper boats, and a tot wading pool. This would be a great spot to hang out on a hot summer day on your New Hampshire vacation.

Portsmouth

Another great water park is Water Country. This Park offers an array of water-themed activities. Slides, wave pools, lazy rivers, water gun towers, and more are offered.

Isles of the Sholes are a series of rocky islands off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine. They look much the way they did when Captain John smith saw them 400 years ago. Various excursion boats make trip to the islands. Grafton

Ruggles Mine also known as “Mine in the Sky” opened in 1803 and is the oldest mica, feldspar, beryl, and uranium mine in the nation. More than 150 minerals can be found here and there are giant rooms and tunnels to explore at your leisure.
