A Kentucky Vacation in the Blue Grass State

Kentucky Vacation - Kentucky is a state famous for many things: the beautiful blue grass that grows throughout the state, bluegrass music, horses and horse racing, and, of course, baseball bats. Kentucky is also home to a vast wealth of natural beauty, history, and culture.

Daniel Boone National Forest

Hiking through the Daniel Boone National Forest is a dream for nature aficionados. Fishing, rafting, horseback riding, and swimming are just a few of the activities that one can participate while at this gorgeous park.

Golden Pond

Land between the Lakes National Recreation Area is also partially located in Kentucky. Off road vehicle areas, cabins, camping areas, hiking trails, and boating are some of the offerings at Land between the Lakes. A museum and planetarium are also located on the site rounding out this Kentucky vacation destination.

Hopkinsville

Cherokee Trail of Tears Commemorative Park The Trail of Tears passes through Kentucky; it traces the route of the Native Americans who were being forced onto a reservation far from their homeland. If you happen to be visiting on Labor Day you can see what a real Pow Wow was like right here at this park.

Falls Of Rough

Rough River Dam State Park is the site of an annual fiddle festival and the best fishing in the state is found in the lake here.

Union

Big Bone Lick State Park offers an outdoor museum about the prehistory of the area. During, the ice age prehistoric animals came here to warm in the salt springs. The area is also home to a herd of bison; this is an attempt to reestablish the animal in the area as the last wild herd was seen in Kentucky in 1800. Camping, swimming, mini golf, and hiking are available options.

Lexington

Horse lovers in your family must see the world famous Kentucky Horse Park this is a 1,200 acre park to honor the states favorite animal, horses. Here you will find a museum, horse shows and stables to explore. In addition to state parks Kentucky is filled with numerous historic sites to visit on your Kentucky vacation.

Hodgenville

The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site encompasses and preserves two farms on which Lincoln lived when he was a boy. A log cabin is located on the site, symbolizing the one Lincoln was born in such a long time ago. There is a site both at Knob Creek and at Sinking Springs Farm.

Boonesborough

Fort Boonesborough built in1775, was a stop on the Wilderness Road, a famous trail forged by Daniel Boone. Today, the fort has been reconstructed to look as it did long ago. There are log cabins and blockhouses. Pioneer guides welcome visitors and demonstrate crafts in the cabins at the fort.

Danville

Constitution Square State Historic Site preserves the site of the state of Kentucky’s road to statehood. Historic buildings that housed the state’s Constitutional conventions are located on the site. Picnicking and guided tours, by appointment only, are available activities.

When the kids get antsy with the history and scenery, you can head to places that offer more adventurous fun.

Louisville

Kids will love visiting the Louisville Slugger Factory and museum in Louisville. The special place the official Bat of Major League Baseball is made. They will also find the largest bat at 120 feet and weighing in at 68,000 pounds.

Shepherdsville

For food and high-tech fun, look no further. Kart Kountry in Shepherdsville offers the longest go-kart track in the United States; they also have mini golf, batting cages, bumper boats, and an arcade.

Bowling Green

For dads and kids who love cars, corvettes that is. The Chevrolet sports car is assembled here and you will find the National Corvette Museum. Dozens of classic Corvettes are on display here and each one is in mint condition.
