The Vacationer, Issue #004 -- A Vacation Newsletter for Families who want to save time and money. April 27, 2008 |
A Vacation Newsletter for Families who want to save time and money. ________________________________________________________________ Looking forward to those warm summer days? Our house definitely has the summer time buzz. You know, the we want school to be over and summer to start now, buzz! Now is the time to start planning your families’ summer vacation, everyone will want to help, so ask them all for ideas. Make it clear not everyone will win, but you value their ideas and if they don’t get their choice this year there’s always next year. If your ideas include air travel check out the rest of our site your summer vacation. If you are visiting relatives over the summer vacation, consider adding a day or two to visit a national park or amusement parks close by their city! A couple quick hotel tips for your summer vacation. If you have picky eaters who also like fast food, don’t make the same mistake I did thinking they would be ok with McDonalds, Burger King, Subway and pizza for 4 days. Shockingly, they got tired of all fast food two days into the trip and even with a refrigerator and microwave in our room it still wasn’t enough. Next time I will definitely pay the extra for the kitchen and suffer with the outdoor pool, then I can cook a couple nights and not have to worry about the, “I want to go home and eat!” blues. Do the recent fuel prices and security for air travel have you down? Consider staying home for summer vacation and check out what is close by your house. On a recent trip to visit friends in Ohio I realized, I had seen most of the sites around our home state but there was a ton of things my kids had never seen! I also realized the things I had shown them at age 5 and under they really no longer remembered. Depending on the city/state you live in only some of these will apply, but here are a few ideas:
Keep in mind the age of children when selecting outings. If you have young children half day outings might be in order and older kids will be more interested if they help decide what you will see. Think of all the things you could do that are just a short car drive away and how many you could do in one summer! For us living in Washington everything listed above is less than a one hour drive from our home.
